What is the actual science behind this ? Do some oils get past some nooks and crannies due to its grade , while other oils are ok ?

I also use Penrite 15w50 Diesel Semi Syn. I've had my current GQ TD42 for almost 13 years and done about 170,000km in that time (It's just clicked over 420,000kms).
My GQ TD42 before that I had for 100,000kms.
I've used the 15w50 exclusively and checked the dipstick before each 5000km service and never lose anything off the dipstick.
The engines love it, Penrite used to (might still?) recommend the 20w60 and I tried it once but the engine lost power and the ability to hit the higher rpm.
I read all the time that people love the 15w40 (Delo and Castrol IIRC) in TD42s but I just think it's too thin, especially since I added the turbo.
I'm really happy with how my engines are reliable and quiet. So thumbs up to the 15w50 and here's to the next 270,000kms of trouble free touring!

Not a td but a pretty modified crd zd30 (21psi boost, tune etc pushing pretty decent numbers) and have been using penrite semi 15w50 for ages now without any issues. Rarely have to top it up and if I do I presume its just what the provent catch can has caught. Cars done 250k and runs great with this oil!!

In my case I'm putting usage down to bore glazing.
The engine is fully balanced, right down to clutch on flywheel.
It runs so effin' sweet it hardly has to work at all.
I need to get a full load, backpack/ camper trailer to make it dig in and pull.
Cuts the glaze in no time and then uses eff all oil.
Good excuse to go camping, hasn't been enough of that lately, too bloody busy elsewhere.
I AM NOT STUBBORN.........I prefer the term, Singlemindedly independent !

Early report here. Unsure if the placebo effect got the hold of me. But the trusty redarc gauge has been reporting a 1C lower temps since dropping this oil in the motor.
Now you may say that may be sweet fark all, but my trusty eye always keeps tabs on the gauges and the above "change" was definitely noticed.
Especially on the warm-ish days we've had. I will keep an eye on this to confirm my self as a fool or not, but would it be safe to assume that possibly thicker grade hot spectrum of oil could possibly be behind this ?
