No cat and no muffler defect?
Hi guys,
I've just purchased an 08 Patrol and have seen a nice sounding exhaust kit (which is under $400) but it's got no cat and no muffler.
My question is, is having no catalytic converter a defect in NSW?
I've heard some instances of people being heavily fined for not having a cat on their exhaust system but not sure if that was in NSW or not.
Thanks in advance for the help

I would think, regardless of which state you are in, if you remove a pollution device, as fitted originally from the factory, the vehicle would be subject to infringement if you get caught. Probably more likely in NSW due to the yearly inspections also.

Huge no no, and a huge fine to go with it, grab a high flow cat and keep it legal
Thats what I reckon you should do. and get a egt bung weld on as well

I am he, fear me
Put a Hi-flow Cat on for sure IMHO... not worth the risk to not have one
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

No muffler ? Ok if within the dB level , and if your neighbour likes you.
If your car rolled off the ship onto Aussie soil with a cat, you then shall have a cat.

"EGT Bung"... adapter for an Exhaust Gas Temp probe... much better to do before the exhaust goes in rather than after

Most high flow cats will probable have one but check when you buy it.
easy to fit an EGT gauge.

A cat will need to be on there for sure. As stated 100%. In Vic, even if its under the db limit, you still are required to have a muffler of some sort. So a small hotdog muffler in there will keep the fuzz off your tail. I went from no muffler to a hotdog and there was little difference in sound.
