GQ Turbo TD42 oil advice
Hi all,
I'm after some advice as to which engine oil to use, I have a turbo TD42 very mild tune with 276,000 k's.
I'm looking for a good quality engine oil and price isn't really an issue.
Cheers
Dan

I use the above. A 20L drum costs under $100

Thanks for the replys guys, after posting this I did a very thorough search and found some info, thinking I'll go for Castrol RX Super, what you think?

The TD42 is meant to be used with an older grade oil CE I think?? but most run RX with no issues which is a CI grade... I had issues because I used it on a freshly rebuilt TD42 with an aftermarket turbo... turns out it was doing too good of a job stopping the old girl bedding in. So after rebuild number 2 I'm being a little more careful this time .

My preference is the Penrite HPR Diesel, I think its 20w 50, I've used in my TD42 with aftermarket turbo for many years. 320k on the clock and still going strong. I use it mainly as a comp truck now days so it gets a pretty hard time.
Oil choice can go down the same path as engel/waeco, petrol/diesel, ford/holden etc.... Most of the bigger names are all good quality and I don't think any of them are going to do harm. Personal choice really.
You said price isn't really an issue but if you shop around you will be surprised at how much you can save on the same product. Also buying in bulk will normally give a better per litre cost too, not always though as sometimes products in certain sizes are 'on special'.
Just read the above post, it appeared while I was typing. Bedding in a new motor needs special attention, however after this process you shouldn't see the same issues.
