    Other work while doing clutch

    G'day all

In a couple of weeks I am going to be putting a new clutch in my brothers GQ with the TB42 engine.

We plan on doing from the bottom, we have some good ramps (350mm high) , jack stands, and a hydraulic table to help lift and align stuff. We plan on getting to the top bell housing bolts with a series of socket extension bars and a wobble stick. It worked on the MK I have.

    But

While we have it apart what else should we do?

It has 150,000km on it and is in immaculate condition but was owned by an older gent who slipped the clutch a lot. It is getting a heavy duty pressure plate, new clutch plate and thrust bearing.

We also plan on doing the rear welsh plugs and are wondering if it is worth doing the rear engine seal, gearbox or xfer case seals while it is all apart?

    Cranky

    Hello

I would get the flywheel skimmed to get rid of any ''hot spots" caused by the slipping clutch and while everything is out you should change the rear main seal and input shaft seal instead of tearing it all apart again if it leaks.

thanks fellas but we have a hydraulic lift table with 500kg capacity to sit it all on and lower and lift it into place so it should be a dodle.

And if that struggles some long tines on a forklift.

The spigot bearing was with the kit and we will get and do the rear engine seal.

We are also going to do all the welsh plugs at the back. Does anybody have a list of sizes??

We are thinking about the gearbox front seal and wondering if we should do that. Or if it is not weeping at al leave it undisturbed? Keeping in mind it has only done 150 thou

We will takes some pics along the way

You can get to the top bolts on the box, by pulling the floor plan.

there is a 54mm odd size welsh plug - I had to buy it from Nissan (was $2.). You don't need to pull this one as its goes to the oil gully. The washl plug in the middle reaer need to be replaced - mine was nearly rusted though. - I got one from autobarn
