If it winds down the electric motor can't be the problem.
Which window is it?
If you have the door trim off try putting power and negative directly to the motor.

it was passenger side. Managed to get it up by unscrewing the motor and then putting it back together. rang nissan for a new one. 600 for a new motor

Try a reg from another door. Just to be sure it's the reg.

Put a test light across both wires at the motor. Make sure all window switches are plugged in.
The test light should light up when operating passengers switch and drivers main switch..... both up and down. Does it?

Unfortunately I have put it back together. I am about to begin a 5500 km trip on Thursday to darwin so I will check it out when the trip is over.

...or you could do what Yendor suggested. Would be a lot easier than my suggestion. I would assume if it works on the up, it would work on the down if the switch is fine.
