TD42 475k's
Theres a decent looking TD42 for sale in vic with a few mods for 8500 but has 475xxx. I know the td42 are fairly indestructible but is this a bit too high when looking to buy?

Yes as 3D says make sure you get a 4x4 specialist to check it out, they will go forever if they are looked after.

Yeah get it thoroughly inspected. My folks picked one up recently with 400k for $10500, we spent about 1k on fixing minor things ( thermostat, bushes etc etc). It drives beautifully. It's a td42 factory auto.

Mine has half a million on it. All original. Or was before I pulled the diff out to do a bearing and seal kit through it. As others have said check it well. Compression test, take it for a drive and get it up to highway speed.
Check for rust, gutters and rear door windows are usual suspect areas for rust.
Enjoy the search thought. And don't rush.

4x4,
It is the rest of the car that i would be checking out.
Is it is 500000alms of bitumen driving, or 500000klms of corrugations.....
Does the car feel tight, or loose with rattles everywhere....
Check the inner guards in the engine bay for cracks, and the roof, rear wheel arches, and front radiator supports that they aren't full of rust
