    3.0lt GU starting

    Hi all,
Just wondering what it means when you start the 3.0lt when warm, that it all of a sudden sounds as if the motor is going to fall to bits and fall out.
Also it appears to be idling a wee be rough and if ya touch the accelerator, to up the rev's, it seems to settle. Motor runs fine and goes like the clapper, but the slowly getting worse clapping is getting annoying.
Most times when you start cold, it starts with little or no rattling noise, so would it be telling me "time for a service" ? It has done approx 7k since the last service.

    Cheers

Check your engine mounts, gearbox mount for wear and tear.
Check turbo manifold, turbo and exhaust that there all tight, also check intercooler and intake setup that its all tight..

If everything looks good, start saving quick I'd say...

    Hmmm,
Dropped the ol girl into the mechenic this morning, I restarted it and he said very quickly "switch it off"
I hate it when he says that... Apparently the noise that sounds like the ass is falling out of the motor is in fact the damn clutch, rattling away. He said something about being a double something or rather, then swore and asked if I wanted the Arm and the Leg one OR just the Leg one, So obviously I opted for the Leg one... hehe..

I suppose I can't complain about it as it is the original clutch and has now just clocked over 250,000 km's, with many of those, having a 2.5tonne van on the back.

Ok, off to visit the bank manger ....AGAIN......

At least it's only the clutch and not anything more sinister.

It will be the dual mass flywheel that is the culprit I suspect.....

Yep, spot on... Pulled it out and could see what the pob was. What surprised me was just how much grease was on the wall of the housing. What surprised me even more was what the $$ figure was to replace it, so now a Solid Single unit is going in and I'll have to learn how to drive the vehicle again.
The Duel was approx $3500.00 without instalation, so I gather the bill would have been around, $4500+, so opted for the Solid at approx $1100 + fitting.
Oh well, I still can't complain after 250,000km's......
