    exhaust to loud

yes i know...becoming old and farty. recently acquired 94 rx diesel turbo with 3"system and muffler which looks like an oversized hot dog from the good ole days. initially the noise wasnt an issue but a trip away fully loaded and the drone gave me a headache after 3 hours.
a mate had similar issue with his td42 .he installed a new muffler.got under and had a look and it said "super cat" if that means anything to anyone.he said it has a wave type baffle so it is still almost straight thru.
im also looking at sound deadening the bus as well.so couple of questions

do they make a quieter muffler for the 3" system and would i have to get turbo timing (or whatever the magic is) redone as well.

what type of sound deadening do you use

    thanks .ned

    Hey Ned,

Yes mate, they do a "Turbo" muffler which is basically an offset straight through, i have one on my GQ TD42 and it does a good job. I am thinking of taking it out though cause i want a little noise for the bush truck. I have a 3" mufflered system on my GU IV TD42 which is the tourer and it is quiet and great.

As for "Sound Deadener" If you ever swamp the car that is a good time when the carpet is out to buy a big drum of Body deadener and paint a few coats under the carpet, i also painted the inside of the doors on the GQ and it works great, no rattles and sounds solid.

Painting it on the underside of the car could get a little messy though??

    Cheers

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

The 3" exhaust I had on my turbo'd TD42 GU had a redback muffler on it and was as quiet as a standard exhaust but flowed very well.
As long as the muffler you fit is not restrictive there will be no need to retune the engine.
