    Tail Shaft direction (rear)

    All,
I have a 2000 4.2TD coil cab, the spline joint on my rear tailshaft is closest to the rear diff, is this correct or should it be closest to the gearbox

In all honesty I shouldn't matter, but mine is the same..
I think some of the boys running bigger lifts turn it around to to give more clearance over center cross member..

You can run it either way but standard the small end is towards the back but when you start lifting your car above stock people swap them around the other way....

It faces that way for a reason. Generally they do have a seal but water will run down the shaft and drip off but if the other way around the water can get into the slip joint causing unwanted wear and tear. As its been stated flipping them is really only for clearance issues.
