Damn I wish I had the skills to do stuff like that! I need a dual battery tray made and it's not going to be cheap.

Nice work mate. Ye I made mine to. So simple.. I've sat mine on some rubber washers to remove some of the shock loading on the wheel arch as I've heard a few people who have had there's crack..

Just in the home workshop, little arc welder, couple or grinders. Bench vice nothing special at all. I scored/cut the 3mm plate about 2mm deep in the bends to make it easy as to bend then just tacked the fold.
I wish I took the time to go thru it step by step,

I have to build another for a mate I'll get some templates off that and a step by step, honestly the hardest part is welding. Now days gas less migs are cheap and are dead easy to use for the beginner.
Good idea on the rubber mounts, in a hurry must get to work.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Hey mate is there any chance we could see some pics of the cracks? I have four solid mounting points the bracket has no movement in it at all. The only way I could see it cracking the inner guards if the tray it self was flexing or the battery tray was not sharing the load evenly over its fixing points.
Guys Im going to draw the tray up on a4 paper and scan it so be a case of transferring the drawing over to metal and cutting the pieces out. Its a good simple project, start small thing big.

No probs mate. The tray you have made is fundmentally identical to the ARB tray I have in the GQ. Note also that the ARB tray also includes an extended top bar across top of the battery as part of the battery clamp and screws to the quarter panel to help with the weight of the battery.
