Have the CAT on my ute from new. This is the second one with 4 pads after original unit's housing cracked after10 years.
Nothing will prevent rust entirely but IMHO this helps slow it down.
I go to Fraser every year at least once but usually 2 or 3 times and the only rust I had was above windscreen after a dodgy installation of replacement windscreen.
Nothing replaces thorough cleaning after beach trips with several washes and sprinkler under vehicle also several times.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and all you need is your friends (and in our case our Patrol)

I installed a system with 8 pads, time consuming running the cables etc, however found the unit induced a 'field effect' to the vehicle and basically killed the ability to operate my HF radio - needed to wait up to 4 hours for the interference to decay to zero before I could use the rado. As comms was more important to me than corrosion protection, I ripped it off. I also think it a help if correctly installed however this was an undocumented and known issue when I delved into the issue why the HF radio wasn't receiving or transmtting.

Had no problem with my radios but bullbar probably is not protected by the unit as the pad i have on chassis is towards the back.

UHF and VHF are fine, just HF 0-30Mhz, spent a lot of time and effort rooting this out, anyway, the system is gone, shame because I installed it to perform a task.
