    New uhf, I知 lost!

    Happy Sunday team Np!

I need a new UHF, especially for the Simpson trip coming up and I知 completely lost, so many options!

I would prefer to stick with GME, I致e got the GME 6.6dbi and I would prefer Din size as it would fit nicely but open to suggestions.

I don稚 want to spend shiploads, I guess budget around $5-600 ish but I want to get something half decent so can be flexible, any help appreciated?

ICOM 410 is a solid choice Andy, waterproof to a meter, not that you want to test it! Great audio I have found.

Hook up an external speaker right behind your ear hole - you will hear it, talk to Darren, he is bound to have a tek screw he can 'lend you'.

I believe 4x4 24/7 had a dual antenna one on special low range and high range antenna that work at the same time, check it out. Great for the Simpson trip where it will be handy

I would be very interested to hear from a radio tech regards the efficiency of the two antennas hooked up and in close proximity, as recall a mate with a Codan HF experiencing difficulty getting out when 27mHz was the main communication radio - before UHF exploded onto the market, and the Codan dealer advised the close proximity of the 27mHz antenna to the 3-30Mhz antenna was the issue in that the 27mhz antenna was essentially receiving the bulk of the signal and killing the range. The solution was to unscrew the 27mhz antenna when transmitting, which I understand fixed the problem - maybe the UHF band is different or the radio compensates or nulls out the second antenna - again, curious only, may all be BS, however I know when Oricom launched their product was labelled 'cheap and cheerful by the opposition, however their market options suggest they have built up a fair demand, which you would think is based on quality and performance, not brand name perhaps.

We have 2 of the GME XRS radio which is the top of the range. It hides up under the dash and just have a plug for the hand piece.
Sound quality is unreal, plus it has a button which repeats the last message if you missed it.
They also have GPS functionality between XRS radios, I'm not entirely sure how it works but there will be quite a few of them on the trip so we should work it out before then.

I remember reading that somewhere and was keen to learn more about the GPS feature.

Would be bloody handy when we break away and finding camp spots or better tracks, etc!
