Went snow camping on a weekend that Victoria got hit with a Super-cell. Aah yeah, thats pretty ugly weather. We set up in windy sunny weather and a lush green grass campsite deep into the bush up Mt Howitt way. 4 hrs later, this is what hit us.IMG_0536.JPGIMG_0532.JPGBrothers single pole tent next morning IMG_0525.JPGWhat was left of a brand new RV-5 - warranty claim rejected by manufacturer - never meant to be used in snow
Only first pic for entry, others for context of a very uncomfortable weekend.

I can’t post pics but that’s the weekend we came up there Philo - was epic 👍🏻

Lookin' at many of these how soft would Roofy think we were jacked up on stretchers! I swapped out my old flap over swag to Roofy and never liked my hooped swag "upgrade". Was always too cold in comparison.

@Sprock,
Sprocky Doodle, this was actually the year before that trip, and unfortunately all my photos of that weekend we got together are on my other phone, still in my room at the minesite. It was a funny trip though, missed out on some great driving having to 'babysit' my semi conscious brother from the previous nights activity. Anyway, i doubt we are going to get released this year in time for the snow, so maybe next year we can do it again, perhaps bigger! Funny thing was, we tried to find that campsite in the first photo and in the snow every 'memory marker' disappeared, so to this day i don't know exactly where that spot is, probably could find it in the dry though? The spot we ended up in was ok though. The year after that second trip, my brother and I headed back up there and could only get about 100m off the mainroad as the snow was so deep, the patrol actually rode up on the floor pan and belly'd out - that's where camp ended up being that year.

@Plasnart
Plassy, i made my first swag, and used it down in Tassy while I was working there for 6 months - headed out the back of Sheffield towards the high country and it was one without a hoop or supports. Pulled up for the night in early arvo at a great little dam, and chased the trout around without luck for hours. that night it stormed and snowed about 3 - 4". The sapling trees spent the night slapping against the side of the landcruiser i had back then. I knew it was snowing, and first time in a swag under those conditions, but warm and comfortable - as the snow built up I remember it being like a heavy blanket. Anyway, got up next morning and 3-4" of snow on the canvas, lucky I didn't suffocate. Good memories.

Pic 2, same trip as earlier, next morning carnage, awning destroyed, RV5 tent destroyed, the guy in the photo actually evacuated the tent at 2.30am and sat the night in his patrol with the engine running and heater on!IMG_0524.JPG
Entry 3 Father and daughter weekend down at Leechville. What started as a brilliant weekend ended as major dramas as the weather turned and the recently graded track of clay turned impossible. My hydraulic winch worked well, pulling up out of there over 1.6klm at 20m bites, took 10 hrs from memory. No friction, no forward motion.DSCF0184.JPGDSCF0193.JPG
