The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Dick Smiths head should be on that matchbox. That complete kunt made his fortune selling chinese crap and now when he has become completely senile he rips into aldi etc who source as many items as possible from Australia. Furk off Dick Smith. Cant believe that plick was in charge of CASA.
Sorry, rant time.

Don’t know too much about Dick’s past Mick Mate but our Father (Electronics Engineer) certainly also use to rant about the pinching of Aussie Hard Yakka born technology in the day. His rants were more explicit than yours though mate :-)

He made his first millions with Dick Smith Electronics by buying up 27meg CB radios for a pittance when the yanks started dumping them and then sold them to Aussies at hugely inflated prices. They were illegal to use in those days without a licence and he knew it but they were the 'must have' item of their day - but of course that wasn't his problem. It's always about the money!

@Brissieboy I still have my Dick Smith Hornet 2
27meg Cb radio, complete with Upper and lower side band.
Pick up USA in the right conditions. Once while waiting for
the kids to finish school I was talking to the skipper on a cray boat
down in Tassie. All Ive done is swapped out the STD mike for a power mike
Was thinking of fitting to my camper but nah UHF is here to stay.
Good on you Dickie I say, That match box should go straight to the pool room
Tell em there dreaming eh, Good find John
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

We've been here for nearly 2 and I found them the other day in the shed. Think I will move them to the pool room with the other collectables.

And I still have one somewhere as well - side band too, but not from tricky-dicky. There are still people using them. Some truckies have both the 27meg and UHF, but more just use 2 UHF these days if they prefer 2 units (like when doing escorted oversize loads).

I got peed off with all the rubbish on SSB, these days. If I was talking to say, Hawaii or California, I would get pushed out by others with more powerful sets. I ended up giving the set back to Dad, as I couldn't reach him in Central Vic anyway. The local AM in my area is pretty well deserted, so you can have a decent conversation with someone if needed.
