GQ Wheel bearings
Howdy guys, got a small problem. I'm doing my wheel bearings on 91 GQ , but once I've setted bearings in at 160 odd pounds then back it off ready for lock ring but hub is way too tight to turn. Even at hand tight it takes a bit of effort to turn hub by hand. Only thing I've changed is lock nuts on hub to GU style. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

Are you trying to spin with wheel on or off? Fair task with the wheel off. Whack a wheel on and see how it feels. Should be finger tight.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Found out problem with bearings, apparently the seal is round the wrong way. Mechanic told me that for some reason in patrols or just GQ you have to spin the seal around opposite way than all other cars. Last person that did bearings put seal in the wrong way and I've just followed how it looked. Sounds strange but the mechanic races GQs in winch pull events so I suppose he knows. I'll give that a try.

I’m going to be doing the wheel bearings on GU this weekend. I saw a vid by terrain tamer where he tensioned the wheel bearings then he hit the edges of the tyre with a sledge Hamer then checked for movement. Which there was then he tightened them again.
Is that a good method of seating them????
Any ideas would be great. Cheers

What I do is tighten them up until theres no movement other than rotational. Then go for a drive around a few streets then jack it up and recheck.

How tight on the rotation. Will spin a little with a push or will stop when stop
Pushing. If that makes sense

Well if you go too tight you will fell it when spinning the wheel. So I'll tighten until then back it off a little so the wheel spins easily. But not too easy where it borderline becoming lose. If you get what I mean.
