Firstly use only solid plate no central bleed hole.
Best to block off at both ends of EGR assy (@ inlet & exhaust manifolds).
Easiest is at inlet manifold:
Prefer to remove IC in its frame (remember to disconnect MAP sensor plug at front of intercooler) - Need to undo IC boost hoses/clamps (both sides) and just pull off hose ends at cooler and lift cooler off.
Remove the hex hd bolt (vertical fastener) that secures EGR assy to engine block. If your plate has slotted thru holes, only need to loosen EGR flange bolts enough to slide plate in place(it is not that important, but prefer to retain gasket and place the plate so the gasket is sandwiched between plate and inlet manifold. May have to use a piece of wood or lever to help to pull EGR assy flange away to fit plate (Easy as you go). Then tighten plate bolts and the replace and tighten the EGR assy securing bolt to block. You may have to remove one of the fuel lines at fuel filter to make room to work, may need to pump up primer after replacement of fuel line.
If the plate has solid thru bolt holes (not slotted) adopt same procedure but after loosening the flange bolts only enough to fit plate, remove top one completely slide plate in to fit top bolt a and do up few threads and then remove bottom bolt, swing /rotate the plate in position to line up with bolt hole and replace bottom bolt then tighten all up.
For fitting plate at exhaust manifold, better to use slotted plate. Need to remove Turbo heat shield (can instruct) and loosen flange bolts , slide plate in position and tighten up bolts. Have you fitted or thinking of fitting 3" exhaust sys. Easier to fit plate at exhaust manifold at same time as fitting exhaust. Let us know what you are up to mate. Full NADS etc?
Thanks heap Bidja,,
Great reply. Any idea where I can order a plate to go between the egr valve and egr cooler. The ones I see online ( patrolapart etc ) seem to go between the egr pipe (across the back of the engine) and the egr cooler. A new gasket would also be great from the same supplier !

Hi guys I have an 07 CRD. I am new to the patrol scene and wanting to do the EGR blank. does anyone have a picture of where to place the blanking plate as I have read many different feeds stating numerous places. I have attached an image from a service manual with an area circled in red. will this serve as an effective blanking position?
The other end of the egr cooler where you have circled is normally where you would blank it. Or at the exhaust manifold side is better. But harder to do.
Ive got a di , i blocked both ends of mine - i did drivers side 1st then got thinking about it didn’t like the idea of the egr pipe around the back of the engine having exhaust gas going into it with nowhere to go + i’d heard of a few people getting a pinhole in that pipe & getting a chirp or whistling noise from it so i blocked the other end aswell .
