Madigan Line fuel usage 4.2tdi
Just started doing the planning for next year's Madigan run, West to East. Was wondering what fuel consumption people running a loaded 4.2tdi managed on the Madigan from Mt Dare to Birdsville. (Previous trips across the French Line I averaged 21l/100kms).

@Roofy @Rossco did it more recently and it's had a heap of traffic and a much easier drive. They would have a better indication of recent times.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Yeah was very easy when we did it its getting very well worn now, the only thing that will slow you up is if there's heaps of water. Was wet after we did it the plants and birds were amazing, we were expecting to potentialy encounter dramas but was all good. Used about 170 litres from memory, pretty good going. Me and roofy were fairly well on par i think. Was expecting a rougher more remote experience but none the less was still incredible, such a beutiful part of the world.

SA Parks recommend double your worst fuel economy figures to allow for having to turn back because of flooding etc .

Yeah i had 80 on the roof in 4 jerries and 160 in the tanks. Hit the bump stops a few times when everything was full , glad I've got the coil tower braces now ☺. . .
Pulled into birdsville with plenty spare but yeah avoiding flooding is something need to think about. Think it's about 6 -700k from mt dare to Birdsville from memory.
