Hey Guys,
Do I need to replace the power steering oil completely once every couple of years or so?!!
I haven't done mine for years. All I do is topping up the oil once every six months or so.
Thanx
Dom

This is a good video demonstrating how to flush the power steering fluid.
I'm gonna go ahead and flush the oil.

if it smells burnt or looks dirty i'd change it
if your topping it you might like to try Lucas Oil Power Steering Stop Leak i've used it and can confirm it works well for small leaks been in the wifes car for 2 years and no sign of any more leaks.
if its worth doin its worth over doin

If the oil is burnt, something is burning it. If the pump is screeching and carrying on aswell, there is an issue. Possibly a shagged bearing over heating the oil and causing cavitation. If this is the case, fresh oil is a bandaid fix and additives will do bugger all. The only fix is rebuild or replace the pump.

I checked the bearing. It looks and feels ok. No dragging, noise or play.
I'm thinking pump internals are partly screwed from running ancient oil for too long.
I'll be rebuilding it soon & then I'll put synthetic oil, so to not having to bother changing power steering oil for the last half of the vehicle lifespan.
