Nice bit of kit.
I was tossing up between a browning tbolt vs this RAR tactical. Price won....
Mine has a 16.5 inch barrel, larger bolt handle and threaded medium contour barrel. Nice and compact. Has the standard LOP stock w/ raised cheek piece.
The compacts look like a good bit of kit for a smaller shooter. Get the muddy girl compact.

Haha fair enough. Another option for light weight rimfire is the mossberg 802 plinkster had a play with one at the LGS (in pink haha) was quite a neat little rifle easy to hold and handle for $350 with scope (2nd hand).

I have owned an 802 in 17hmr with the flip down handle and found it to be too cheap feeling and had rust problems on the cheap stainless and feed issues.
My mate was looking at buying one for his daughter and i talked him out of it.

The 747
I'm in the process of applying for my license now.
I was just going to buy a 22 for starters for shooting foxes and rabbits on my mates farm.
My mate reckons that I would get bored with the 22 very quickly and want something bigger straight away.
Thinking maybe a 223? I have only ever used shotguns from growing up on the farm and have never really used rifles.

I must say I dont think you will do wrong with a ruger american. Mine seems quite well built for a cheaper market rimfire. Shoots very consistent too. It preferred the cci subsonics today. I was only shooting subs (main reason i went .22lr). I went through winchester 40gn and 42gn, cci, remington and highland.

I'm ex army, so have used all sorts of guns and my first personal rifle was a 270win (not too long ago either). Used heaps of mates centerfires as well.
But at the end of the day I had a massive smile on my face from shooting the little .22lr again today. They are great fun and cheap and easy to learn how to shoot properly. A box of 100 rounds for $15. Let alone cheaper if I wanted to buy a slab of rounds. My 270 is about $46 per 20 factory rounds (.223 is cheaper) You certainly think about $$ adding up when sighting in or practising your marksmanship skills with a centerfire.
