I work with survival techniques and here are to ways to keep warm and cook / boil water if you run out of gas or no means of doing either!
Just start your fire in a log. You have a pot stand in no time and concentrated heat with very little mess.
You can even pickup and move the fires to a better location if it starts to rain.
We tried this a couple of years ago but had a very hard time trying to get it to take. Does the swedish torch normally use pine? We were using a dense eucalyptus hardwood, crosscut with a chainsaw about half way down and a breather hole drilled in from the side but couldn't get it to fire up. Maybe the wood wasn't quite seasoned enough but it burnt no problems when we put it on the fire!
If it was a Yellow Box and a little green chances are
it would never take, its a very dense timber as in heavy
for its size.
OD is right into this type of stuff[survival]
With all the wood collecting restrictions might be the go
to make one up at home and take it with you,lol
That's what I do TD. Cut them about six months before I need them.
These were dry oak, but you can collect Silver Birch staves and lash them together for the same effect when out in the wild. Anything to create the forced air (rocket effect), then even wet stuff should burn this way. Any timber with a resin is great for these too!
Clearly there are pyromaniacs in Australia to! Who hoo!
