My car is probably due for a polish been 10mths since i got it / was last done, still looks fine but want to get rid of the diorrea splatters that birds have left on it and stained the paint a bit... Thoughts on those electric type buffers that SCA sell? or better off just doing it by hand?

If you mean one of these, dont bother (cheap da polisher)

if you mean one of these, you really need to know what your doing (rotary)
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...ecommendations

I have had one of the ones in the top link, and it was terrible, easier to do it by hand. And rotary polishers if not used correctly can damage the paint quite easily, but do give the best results.

I now have one of these

Its great, i bought it in a kit with polish and a bag. Significantly better then cheap polisher or by hand. Plus it way easier.

TLDR; Buy a DA (dual action) polisher and stay away from the junk ones in the first link.

Well I only tried a section of bonnet (I have another bonnet that'll be going on, long story). I decided not to go with the kitten stuff because it said it wasn't for clear coats. The section I did with the meguires deep crystal (by hand) definitely looks better and feels better but I can still see faded type sections in the right angle. It looks like it's deeper. (I say faded for lack of a better word...)
Thinking that it might be the start of the common clear coat problem with those commys

Sounds like a good decision. I wouldn't use anything that says not for clear coats.

If it is past the clear coat nothing but a respray will fix it

I'll buy some light cut and polish and give it a go but I reckon it may be past it. As I said, I have another bonnet that I'm getting painted for it so I do mind testing polishes on the existing bonnet

I saw on one of the car tv shows that Meguires had a product that rids the paint of oxidation marks.
My bonnet comes up a treat but here and there you can see oxidation marks, you cant see them,
but I can and thats why its annoying. None of these treatments are not cheap either, Tried that
orange bottle once a year stuff, I think thats a porky pie, lol

When you say oxidation, what do you mean? Little rust spots? Dry water spots?
