A mate of mine has his there and he made a little cage type thing that bolts where your hook is to protect it. It's in a great spot.

My father-out-law has his hooked up to his double din jobby and screen comes on as soon as he shifts into reverse...... Don't know how it's connected as he had it done by some car stereo place.

Same place I have mine, Only thing I can fault is if I had a trailer on I couldn't see what it was doing.

Only reason I mounted mine down there was that it is a big camera and wouldn't really fit anywhere else!

    Cheers,
    Eric.

Ok huge thread dig here but wife has steamed ahead and purchased a flush mount button style camera..
    I have 3 options.
I was going to mount it in the bumper but the steel chassis rail is mm's behind the bumper. .
So I can try and find an opening or drill threw (no not ideal).
    Option 2..
Drill a hole in the large door skin in under the tyre so it's directly above the tow ball???

Or option 3 grab a mounted camera and do as you guys have.
    Opinions ??
    Cheers

You could fashion a plate off the spare wheel holder that will hang below the tyre save drilling a good door.
A small hole in the centre of the door with a rubber grommet is what they did to mine.
Got a pic of the camera???

    kallen,

Mine is not like yours, but a camera on a tiny steel plate

    76351141.jpg

I have mine mounted under the top of number plate trim (next to number plate light)

    IMG_1745.JPG

The vision is covered a fair bit of by the spare wheel, but only close-by, I still can see a wide area about 10 feet away so I can judge on the reversing.

The reason I didn't go closer to the bumper is, I was a bit worried in sunlight blocking the camera as the angle becomes less and less (camera more or less parallel to the floor).

I would suggest you to try different places first before drilling around the back of the car.

    Cheers.

Also check in all lighting conditions. I am surprised to see my camera's performance at night.
