what is the best way to get some more power out of my rb30 without sending my fuel bill through the roof
Try this, the honey comb heater restricts air flow. Remove and the engine will be a lot more responsive and a it more powerful. And it costs nothing to do.
Start by removing the air filter from the top of the carby. Then undo the 4 carby base bolts (nuts actually), one of the nuts you will have to lift the carby up a bit to get it right off. The carby can then be moved to one side without having to disconnect anything else. Be careful when you lift the carby and try not to damage the base gaskets.
The bit you need to modify is the heating element in the spacer directly under the carby. Disconnect the wires going to the heating element and carefully remove the spacer. This is what it looks like when you first remove it.
Carefully drill out the pins surrounding the honeycomb element, and push out the element. The can looking thing on the other side just pushes out.
And what you're left with should look like this...
Installation is the reverse of removal.

Thanks for that i will have to have a look at that, Will it have any side effects with the bus? Also the auto choke takes a long time to turn off do you think that would have anything to do with that or would that be something else
Auto choke may need adjusting.
Removing the intake heater may make it slightly harder to start and run a little rougher for the first few minutes when the temperature drops below zero - not really a problem here in QLD!
A few other suggestions to unleash a few more horse power, full extractor exhaust system (about $8-900 installed, get a system with mandrel bends), or converting the engine to fuel injection (you can buy a complete R31 skyline for under $1,000 which will give you everything you need including a spare motor.)

can this still be done if your running dual fuel?
would highly reccomend converting to efi, as it will change how the car feels and drives alot.. and of course ur fuel aconomy too..
