Thanks mate, amazing how much a thing like this can make you overlook the simplest of solutions. now to approach this with a clear head and about an hour of no power to the car.
I did notice that once i had stalled the car that the car was remaining in the ignition on position, so i'm thinking maybe a faulty ignition switch?
Sounds like a shut down timer problem. Do you still have it disconnected?
Could be a faulty ignition relay. Try swapping the ignition relay (it's above the fuse box inside the vehicle, bottom left one) with another relay of the same colour.
Thanks Yendor, I will try that now, pulled the ignition switch off and it seems to be functioning well. Nice distinct and crisp clicks in all positions.
My hero. It fills me with a warm fuzzy feeling when I think about how much help I have received from the members on this site. I am a long way from your typical civilization that I, and I bet most of us, grew up with. It is a 600km drive to my nearest Supercheap or mechanic (except emergency council workshops) or fast food chain. It can be a very stressful situation having an auto problem out here.
We did our research and got the most robust wheels we could afford before coming out here and I have been doing oil and oil and air filters with a tyre rotation every 5,000km with a fuel filter every 10,000km. As hard as I try, intermittent problems still come up and without you guys and girls I just don't know where we'd be.
A big thanks to you all and I hope that one day I can help some of you in return.
