Being banned from the forums is sometimes nothing more than a battle of egos. Many times there are also disputes and classic religous like wars like in political threads where ALP vs LNP supporters are slogging it out. Its sometimes taken personally and name callings and insults are flying.
However biggest problem is usually a lack of transparency in the moderating process. Hiding, deleting posts without stating reasons can excalate in to arguments about impartiality of the mods which can leave "sour taste".
I've just witnessed such on another forum where long standing member have been banned for daring to state his case in a deal between two members going sour. Mod over reacted and that left unpleasant experience.
As a consequence I'm starting consider my participation on the forum.
I like how moderation is done on whirlpool.net where the process is entirely transparent as every post/thread which is hidden/deleted has its title left visible with short message as to why.
Cheers

i guess your right mate. deleting and hiding posts isnt a good idea. but we dont seem to have too many keyboard warriors around here, if when they come they dont last long fortunately. its one of the reasons why i stick around. everyone here gets along and thats the most important thing. except for that AB fellow, no one really likes him.
I got red dust in my veins.

We used to have that here until I upgraded the forum and by default it's not on now but easily bought back if everyone thinks its a good thing.
To be honest the culture here is pretty laid back so the only modding generally is harsh swearing and spam really.
Good info though mate, cheers...
Except for that rusty nail ......strange bloke??

I like the idea of leaving the header up and reason for mod deletion. It could also serve as a gentle warning to other users a reminder of what will be tolerated. That's my 2 cents worth, ex gst.![]()

I have no problem with leaving a record of Moderation . I can tell you there is VERY LITTLE Moderation done here. To be honest the main time would be Clean up a thread for someone to remove Banter and get it back on topic. I really don't see a need to retain a record of that though as it would just contribute to the mess.
As a Moderator I can see all posts that have been deleted by other Moderators and also any posts that have been deleted by members. My view keeps the record on display and it can stay pretty messy if a thread cleaning has dropped 2 pages of Banter.
Even that Banter I would generally not remove unless requested.
