You could pour in some Chemiweld to seal any cracks permenantely.
Not my cup of tea, but a cheap way to seal cracks

Hey Fruitloop, re your SD33T, if the motor was turned over, even by hand when the head was off, there is a chance that the cylinder liner has moved, they rely on a tiny seal at the bottom of the liner and this is probably where the water is coming from.
The cylinder liner is surrounded by water and if the seals are disturbed, they will leak.
The head needs to come off again and all new seals fitted to the cylinders.
Other than that, the block could be cracked.
Did you have the head crack tested?
You should be able to re use the new rings, making sure the pistons go back in their original hole.
You will also need a NEW head gasket.
You could remove the head and fill the block with water and see if it's still leaking, this would give you a better idea of where the problem is.
This is my opinion.

EDIT.. Further investigation tells me your motor may be the "dry liner" type, so the problem may not be the liner seals after all.

Good point Ferret, the head should be checked by a specialist, rather than by eye.

hahaha mythird, I am definitely the gopher .... I was in the shed yesterday and He was looking for something .. all I heard was 'now where did I throw that ???'
@ 3dogs : He bought some chemiweld today as a last resort ..
@ Ferrett : He did a 'visual' on the head and could 'see' no crack .... getting him to have it properly looked at, would be like me trying to convince him he HAD to go with the Paramedics when he had his stroke lol.
Anyway, He has determined the block is not losing water; it seems to be leaking down to the head gasket level. Speaking of liners, He was talking to someone today who had just worked on a similar case with a similar model. This guy said he was surprised to find the head gasket bolts had liners. When he further investigated (on the car he was working on at the time), two of them had rusted. Once replaced, problem fixed.
The saga continues lol. Thanks again for all your input and help.

@ fruitloop, chemiweld is like a bandaid on sore thumb, it only washes off.
Get the head crack tested, use new head studs, check liner protrusion before fitting the head.
This way, you may have a longer period of time before the next stroke lol.
You can end up doing the job a dozen times if you don't eliminate all possibilities, eliminate the obvious my girl.

He chose the chemiweld option .... I don't know much, but after everything I have read on here, I know its not the best option. We took it out for a wee drive today ... seemed fine.
