depends on how hard core you imagine yourself being.. a 9000 or 9500lb winch should suffice under most conditions, but if you plan on pulling your vehicle up near vertical hills, look for 12000lbs plus. if youre just using it to pull toyotas through where you've already been or to get through the occasional bog hole the first option will be ok.
Sometimes it's the destination, but usually its the journey!
k thanks guys just what i wanted to know
i kind of regret not getting a 12000lb first up for when we have the trailer in tow but till it dies 9000lb will suffice.
I have fitted a supercheap 9500 to my MK. Have used it to get out of a couple of tight spots.
Also used it to pull a RAV4 back up a hill, where no RAV4 should go.

The Rav4 picked the wrong track and went own a very step muddy hill. Once commited the lady had to keep going.
She made it too the buto but then slipped into deep wheel ruts and had all 4 wheels off the ground.
As the RAV 4 had no anchor points on the front, I had to pull it up the hill so that we could steer it around the ruts.
As the say bl##dy women driver!!!!!
