Winch choice for a ARB Bullbar

G'day All

Recently picked up an ARB bullbar off fleabay and am now wondering what choice of winch can be fitted to the bar, I have heard that they are fitted to accept Warn winches easily, but as I use the car more for camping rather then "serious" 4wd stuff, I cannot see the point in spending huge amounts of money on something that may not get used to much. On the other hand I want something that is reliable and can be fitted to the ARB bullbar without major modification.

Just about any low mount winch will fit without much fiddling if any at all. If you don't wish to spend up big on a winch then ebay might be worth a look. Don't think for a second that a $400 winch won't get you out of a pickle coz there are plenty of fellas out there who put their trucks in some pretty stupid places only to be retrieved by a winch which cost about the same as one of there tyres - regularly. Horses for courses though, golden rule = buy the best you can afford.

Cheers Buzz, first time I have heard it put as bluntly as that, normally everyone wants to brag how good their, winch is and how bad the next one is. My biggist issue is buying something and then finding out it will not fit without modification to the bullbar.

Hey Ian do a bit of a search mate and you will find that the Aldi Brand winch! Yes Aldi is a good buy and cheap mate and will likely bolt straight up.

I am going to buy a winch for the GUIV and will be buying a "Runva" brand winch in the 9.5

Jump on the Warn website and check the dimensions of their 9.5XP winch mate, the ARB bar is made to take this winch so anything that size or smaller will certainly bolt up.

I like the Runva as it has a fantastic rep on the internet and is the only one that comes with an 8.6hp motor!!

There are plenty about on the market mate and the Chinese have come a long way.

X2 - good comments. Winches are rarely used by the average person and subsequently, why fork out a majillion dollars for one .. I'm going a Mako 12000lb jobbie with plasma rope, but I'll probably use it a bit considering what I do (will give me more confidence to have a lash at even harder tracks also), but again, in reality I'm going for brand that rated well for water penetration etc do it doesn't rust out in between uses ... those ones from Aldi (TMax I think?) would do the job for most players.

just bought a runva for my 2008 with the genuine bar, went with the 12000p and much to my surprise it did not fit!. bought it through ebay, the dealer was aussieadventuretours one word the bloke bent over backwards for me as he did not realise this problem anyway ended up getting the 11,000p comp spec winch for the same price which was $850 and it even came with a snatch block! needless to say that i am stoked so if you don't want to go through ebay just go to the website and deal directly with Rob hes a top bloke and after all the messing about he even offered to help instal it! i can't say enough good things about the guys at (aussieadventuretours) give rob a call you will find his number on the website and tell him Graham from kariong sent ya......
