I also wanna get a the provent 200 catch can and a scanguage II so I can keep an eye on things but mainly boost pressure.

The new owner of my old Gu has installed a Scanguage and swears by it, it all takes time and of course money Nick but you will get there and have one hell of a great Patrol......shame it is not a Q though mate but at least it is not a landcrab

Okay, finally got around to doing a fuel consumption testy thingy. Its not super accurate thank god and I sure hope that the next tanks figures are better.

I got 590.1 klms on 99.3L of diesel - just normal Caltex diesel not vortex diesel. This gives me 16.82l per 100klms.

My driving style was not focused on economy just keeping up with traffic and doing the speed limit. Half of those kilometers were on 31" ATs and the other half was on 33" KM2s. Pressure for both tyres was 40PSI. Also I didn't brim the tank on the fill that did those kilometers so it will be out because of that. Total kilometers traveled was a combo of city and hwy

I was expecting better figures than those even though I have a roof rack and the extra weight of the rear bar and LRT - I was hoping for 13L per 100klms or so.

I've now put the tyres at 35PSI for a little bit more comfort. I'll measure this tank more accurately and I'm hoping to get lower than 16L per 100klms - I would love to be at 13L per 100klms. If it doesn't get any better I'll turn the snorkel head towards the windscreen on the next tank and then see how I go.

Also I have figured out the weird Nissan fuel guage. Last week the light came on 30klm from home so I drove home as it was late, got up the next morning and tried to drive the 10 klms to the next Caltex and ran out of bloody fuel..................had to call the NRMA, how embarrasing!! In the cruiser once the fuel light went on I still had 20L. Won't be making that mistake again.

My fill up today of 99L was when the gauge was reading half and the tank is 125L so there can't have been much more than 26L left in there. I'm assuming Nissan can recalibrate the gauge next time I get it serviced. So from now on the needle will not go below 1/4

    Cheers

Okay - I have done another more accurate consumption test

This was the same mix of driving as above. All on 33" MTs set at 35PSI. I was a smidgen more sympathetic with the throttle this time tho.

Traveled 444.20 klms and used 65.24L of diesel

This is 14.68L per 100klms. Which is better but not perfect. I will be doing some freeway on this next tank so I'll leave the tyres at 35PSI, not touch the snorkel head and see how I go.

    Cheers

This weeks result is 564.4klms traveled and used 91.17L of diesel. This gives 16.15L per 100klms

The range of driving in this tank was some freeway and some slow touring through fire trails in Yengo NP (or was it SF) and some spirited, for a diesel, back road driving. Also some of the time was in low but not a great deal. Mostly shuffling around the first 4 gears on the trails in the NP regulalry accelerating and decelerating so it wasn't a very frugal style.

I have filled up and after dinner tonight I will turn the snorkel head around towards the windscreen as I've read that this may improve economy. It won't cost me anything so I'll give it a run.

    Cheers

Hey Nick interesting figures mate, I am getting in the high 13s and 14s with my TD42Ti GUIV. I did a big trip last year with a group towing campers up through the centre and i was 1 or 2 ltrs better than a mate with a CRD ZD30 towing a slightly heavier trailer, i was a little surprised by that. I was pushing 17lts/100. hard driving on rough roads with 24psi in the car and trailer i got up to 24lt/100 but now am averaging 13 to 14 in commuter mode.

Have you have the thing on a dyno? it might be worth while. I put mine on a dyno before the trip and picked up 28rwkw in an afternoon and up'ed the boost to 15. very pleased with my output and results.

In relation to your fuel gauge?? a bit weird mate, you should have a good 10lts left and that should be good on your figures for 60odd kms?

Dyno and then maybe a chip mate and you would be on a winner i reckon, good luck mate.
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
