So are you saying that with the starter motor removed, that rotating the motor 90 degrees that the motor will always then stop in this 'new' position? If so that sounds a better option than having to drop the motor to get a new ring gear fitted. Please confirm.

Follow on question: if I were doing this on a petrol motor I would remove the spark plugs to reduce compression & make turning the motor easier. On a diesel would I remove the glow plugs to achieve the same thing?
