    Tacho on a diesel

Just a simple one here: Where does a tacho on a diesel get its signal from?
    obvously not from the spark.
I dont know much about diesels, never owned one.

The engine tacho signal comes from a tacho signal driver which is mounted on the timing cover at the front of the TD42 engine just above the water pump pulley. It get its speed from the cam idler gear.
    The conspiracy theorists were right!

Well what if there is no ECU? The TD42 in the Y60 has a magnetic pick up either under the ip gear or on the front of the engine to drive the tach.
