    Intro myself

    Hi all.
I just joined and in my enthusiam have had a quick scan of some of the threads and added my 2 cents worth to some of them. I generally don't have much time on my hands as I would like so I don't join many forums because of this. But I do enjoy helping people out where I can with mechanical stuff if I can as this is what my website tries to accomplish. I am an oldtimer as my name suggests. I am a motor mechanic who served his apprenticeship with a tuning specialist in Brisbane QLD back in the early 70's. My detailed profile is on my website at www.mbs.id.au which branches out to my other interests. My mechanical site www.tuning.mbs.id.au is devoted to showing people how to fix stuff or diagnose problems, mainly in the tuning sector but I do cover other topics. It is in it's infancy and takes a lot of my time. As I work in the Army, my site is secondary and in a few years time I hope to retire and devote my time to a part time business working from home helping the not so rich people maintain their old cars. I have over the last 8 mths spent over 10K on tooling working towards my goal. A fair way to go yet to be a full workshop. I work on cars nearly every second week-end to supplement my income and at the moment do just about anything that is mechanical but prefer to do tuning & engine rebuilding. But beggars can't be choosers so I take what I can get at the moment. I have been out of the trade for over 10yrs until recently. Although I am employed by the Army as a mechanic there is absolutely no enjoyment in parts fitting. I decided to start working from home on week-ends about 6 mths ago to re-spark my interest in diagnostics which is what I am good at and then to repair the problem, not just fit parts. I don't know how helpful I can be to everyone because I don't just log in all the time but I have set-up thread subscriptions to the ones I had input to. I am not sure how much time I can devote to this forum & finding my way around is time consuming as I have not been involved with forums much. But we'll see what happens. One thing I have noticed with some of the posts asking for help is lack of information. To enable someone to help you, you need to put in as much information as you can about the problem and what you have done so far. This will help everyone to understand the problem and with logical thinking a solution should be able to be found. Hey I have typed way to much. got another article still to write for my website.
    Cheers
    Mike
    PS.
excuse my forum ettiquite, I don't know how to use those funny icons or what a Tag is used for. Believe it or not just because I designed my entire site, I still don't use HTML as such. A WYSIWYG program savegaurds me from knowing anything about this stuff. You can't teach an old dog new tricks with technology. I prefer it simple.

Thanks Mike, any help and advice you can offer is much apprecieated. I know very little about carbies and old style tuning (I was trained in fuel injection) so you're going to be useful to have around, we can all learn from your experience and knowledge.
