    ZD 30 Belt tensioner

    Hello all,
    I have a squealing fanbelt on start up and my mechanic tells me it is a belt tensioner-only available from Nissan for just under $400.
    Does this sound right? Has anyone had this noise? The car only has 125,000km on it. I would think it is too soon for something like this to happen.
    Cheers

    G'day David, welcome to the forum.
    This is the ZD30 belt tensioner (the tensioner pictured has flogged out mounting bushes, a fault which causes a 'tinking' sort of sound);

    Shown here fitted

    Your mechanic was correct, these are only available from Nissan, cost is about $200 last I knew. So either he's marking up the price or the extra is labour. Check the price yourself with Nissan, if your mechanic is marking up the price get the part yourself and save $200.

    G'day David. Not sure about the price but mine squeals like a crazy cat. It's dodgy I know but i just rub soap under the belt and the noise stops for ages.

    Theres some other blokes on here who will know prices and that so just hang in there for a bit.

    Yep, too late. They already replied...lol

    Thanks Tony and Locks,
    I think I'll try the soap until next service!
    The actual price on the part was $374.00 so it must of gone up a fair bit.
    Thanks for the photo's as well!
    Cheers David.
