    Good Mechanic in Perth?

    Hi all,

I just recently bought a 2002 3l Patrol from its first owner - old guy who just used in on roads.
Have been doing some nice 4WDing and on our trip this long weekend, noted after one sandy section after I was back on the road a severe loss of power. coming back into Perth from Sandy Cape going down Indian Ocean Drive, I had to downshift into 3rd Gear going up some of the little hills (am not towing anything)

anyways, reading up on the forum there seems to be a whole range of options as to what my problem is. so far I checked the air filter and that's about all I feel I can do myself with my limited knowledge.

    so here my question:

I live in Coolbellup 6163 (which is near bibra lake, Murdoch, Fremantle) and am looking for a good mechanic to take my patrol to. does anyone have any suggestions as to which garage to use?

    Thanks already for your advise!

Welcome to the forum mate. If you put up an introduction some of the Western Patrol club boys are down south of the river and they may be able to recommend someone for you. Not to be real stupid, but its not stuck in 4WD is. Believe it or not I do know someone who had that happen in a 4Wd Holden ute.
Intro yourself in introduction section and read up on NADS, yours being a 2002 3 ltr,
2005 GU IV ST 3.0. Snorkel. Roof rack. Awning. Spots. Welded I/C. Dual batteries & VSR. UHF. Barn door hinge extension. Roof top spot lights. Rear drawers. 2" lift. NADS. EGT and boost gauges. Trans temp and water temp gauges. Provent 200 catch can. Rear ladder

And crawling on the planet's face, some insects called the human race. Lost in time. And lost in space... and meaning.

Talk about small world... I also live in Coolbellup and have an issue brewing with my '03 GU Patrol. I have heard that Robson Bros 4WD repairs are good mechanics, but have heard they're a bit on the pricey side...

    Agree with Col.

Robsons' to sort out the issues and, yes, they charge the 'going rate' but know their way around a Patrol.
Once they get it sorted do the normal maintenance and tinkering yourself (it's the best way to get to know your vehicle).
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

    Hi all,
still owe the reason for my power loss: EGR airflow sensor was stuffed - with full check and fixing $600
but as it turns out, I also have a leak in the Exhaust Manifault ($1500 - outch!) and another $1000 for a major service (ok, it being a second hand car that I don't know the service history, I recon its money well spent (I am not the hands on mechanic kind of a guy (doing oil change myself, but that's as far as I go))).
had a good feeling about the place in general, whether its well priced or not is beyond my judgement.
have it booked for the remaining works Monday Tuesday next week, will let you'all know how it went.

Yea mate, Robson's know where to look. Many stories on this and other forums where mechanics charge several thousand's of $s and the fault is still there. I'm a mechanic but not on cars and I often get asked why I charged an hour labour for something that took me 20 mins. The answer is because I knew where to look, and another, non specialist mechanic would have spent over two hours looking for the issue. Horses for courses.
