gearbox swap

I want to swap in a GQ 5 speed gearbox to my GU ute but retain the GU transfer case.
Can the transfer be bolted up to the GQ box? I notice the transfer shifter mount for the GU is attached to the transfer casing. Looks like input splines and spigot are the same? Not sure of final position of gear shifter? Is there anything I need to know to do this change over?
