GU td42t introduced what year, or factory option?
Hi guys,
Been doing research on the GU 4.2 diesel wagons, I had thought all 4.2 diesels were turbo'd, but apparently not. I see there's 3 different motors:
Td42 - no Turbo
td42t - factory Turbo
td42ti - factory Turbo and intercooler.
GU is 10/97 onwards I think, and I'm looking at buying around the 99-03.
Were the Turbo engines released as standard in a particular year, or could you just request the Turbo as a factory option from 97 onwards?
Cheers, Dan

They weren't released as standard till about 05 I think.
All are great motors though. My old man had a TD42 n/a it was absolute train. Just loved the long trips.
2001 GU series II 3.0 TD.
2" lift
Dual Battery System

G'Day Dan,
I have a 2004 4.2 intercooled wagon which i bought new, the only option back then was the 4.2 or the 3.0 litre, the 4.2 was a little more expensive but im so glad i went with the 4.2,
I still have it with only 120k on the clock and loving it,
Cheers Tonks.

The 1998 GU came out with a Turbo TD42 but no intercooler. The DX model you could get a non turbo TD42 though.
You have never been able to buy a TD42T with an auto from factory but there are a few grey imports floating around in a GQ.
I think the factory intercooler was added to the series 2 or even as late as the series 3 as standard and an option in the series 2?
They stopped bringing them into Australia in mid 2006 damn it but they are readily available in the Asian market today
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!!
....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Thanks for the info guys.
So for the 98 onwards, all ST and above spec 4.2s were turbo'd from the factory, it's just the intercooler that didn't become standard til later on?
Cheers,
Dan
