Gu or gq

Hi guys, looking for an early 2000 GU, preferably with timing chain, is it right only the 3.0 diesel has them.
Been reading about the (grenade engine), no offence to those that have them, but knowing my luck i'll go boom if i bought the 3.0 litre.
Could i ask a question regarding diesel chip tuning, what would be the earliest GQ i could chip, coz if i couldn't get a GU, i would buy a GQ.
Are there any GQ's with timing chains.
One more question, the 3.0 litre diesel produces some great torque, power stats, what is the latest year that one has died.

If you can't get a 3l past 2003 then get a gq mate.
2000-2003 seem to be the problem ones.

Mind you the GU is a much more superior vehicle

I was recently considering a 2001 GU and after comments here, from the Boys at work & finally a Nissan Workshop Supervior whose been working on nissans most of his life I decided to stay the hell away from anything 2000-2003 - your just asking for trouble

Depends what your going to do, IMO I love GQ utes, but if touring is your thing the GU would be my pick
