My GU Patrol, drive over anything fun machine.

Hi guys, just joined up, thought id chuck some pic's up of my beast.

Its a 1998 GU, with the thirsty TB45.

    Mods are:
    2" lift
    35" mtz's on 15x10's
ARB compressor under the bonnet with remote air mounts
    ARB front air locker
    Some alignment stuff under neath
    UHF
    Doof Doof
    Dents and scracthes.

Its pretty basic at the moment, future planned mods are:
    4" lift
    LPG
    Winch bar and winch
    Roof Rack and awning

Got this just to have fun on the wkends with mate's and taking the kids out, gets me where i wana go. Once its on LPG will be doing 1-2 night trips away in it.

Tends to get alot of money spent on it, more then i had planned.

And this is my other toy that takes up the rest of any money i dont have that i shouldnt spend on cars. Im slowly building it up to get back into racing, its 1998 R34 Skyline

    Boing boings.. haha.

How are you finding the rear flares with the 35's under full flex mate? My sunnies are 15"X10 also and I found it rubbed sometimes under extreme flex. I ended up putting flexi flares all the way around but after a while they just look sh*thouse. Currently still got flexi's on the back and I want to put the solid plastic ones back on the back, they look waaaay better.

Uh... nice GU man , love the stance with the black steelies !! You got a nice playground there (not to mention the Skyline and the 4Mo Passat Wagon !!)

    BTW you also got a 20-21 lt/100 Kmt (5.5 kmt/lt) fuel economy like my GU 4.5 ?

This pic is very nice !!

Timbo yeah they do rub on full flex, havnt pulled one off yet... touch wood. I just try and ignore the horrible sound it makes when they do! I need to get some flexi flare's as these stick out miles. I was going to extend the bump stops once i get more lift, shud stop most the scrubbing?

JPVM thanks mate, taken me a few years but ive built up a nice stable. The Passat R36 i never get to drive she wont let me... Yeah its fun having it so close, only thing is i find the car doesnt stay clean very long!

Around town id get 20ltrs per 100 easy if not more, on long easy trips with the cruise control ive got 16ltr's tho, sitting at 100km/h instead of the national speed limit here in OZ of 110km/h, no doubt once its loaded up with roof rack, camping gear etc it will get worse, LPG cant come quick enough.

I don't use my GU as daily driver, so normally all my use is highway fully loaded with complete caroged roof rack and also towing a tralier. I get 20 lt/100 in all conditions (no joke) loaded or unloaded , but I do drive 120 Km/h all the time in highway (that's our legal top speed).

I just bought a doble jerrycan (20 lt each) holder to mount on the roof rack to get a little more autonomy (I only have 450 Kmt of autonomy per tank)

PS : My wife drives a '03 VW 4Mo Passat (H&R springs and 18" wheels from Audi RS4)

I've actually got a 3" lift in mine where as you have a 2" lift. 35's are doable on the 2" lift but they would scrub harder than mine. When mine scrubbed it was under extreme flexing conditions and even then it was minimal.

I'd say get a 3" (or the 4" like in your future plans) and you should be right. Now that I think of it, I could probably count the amount of times my wheels have rubbed the flares on one hand. So the 3" is really quite adequate if you don't want to go too high.

I think new laws will be introduced into Victoria soon making any lift over 2" illegal. I think NSW or QLD are already enforcing this? Or maybe there are about too? So I might have to downsize in which case I'll sell the 35's and get 33" muds.
