hand brake light

g'day,
the handbrake light stays on all the time, I have tried pushing the button/switch that I think should switch the light off when the hand brake is released (gets pushed down when you let off the hand brake). It came on and stayed on after driving through heaps of rain on the way down the east coast from Cairns to Sydney. I know what your thinking and yes I"m certain that the handbrake is disengaged, I hope

Is it a short? and how to find out?

First thing to do is check your brake fluid level, if the brake fluid level is low the hand brake light will come on and won't go out until topped up.
