I am running a synthetic GL-4 so far no issues, don't use GL-5 like the parts interpreters say cos that is baaaad.
mine has been in it for maybe 40k km still shifts smooth. I used Nulon can't...

I know the sleeve you are talking about, seen a few different cars with them, why they have them ....my guess would be to stop the pin from rattling

some people try and use a cone that fits in the middle of the rim. not great for a 4wd rim, better off with fingers that line up with the bolt holes.
