If I's doing much tarmac I'd rather a harder longer wearing tyre and let the shocks take up the slack. I do run good sidewall ratios as well, not low profile...

If a general a/t "nankang" brand are the best cheapy brand i've found, hard compound (long wearing on the tarmac) no comment on grip or offroad performace.
with the negative disconnected i'd do it with a hacksaw, or even a pair of av-shear/tinsnips.
copper will gall in a grind disc and there's too much potential to slip or grab with a grinder and do...
If It doesn't have a tensioner bolt (the GQ do - topside, not sure if they changed it???) then lean on it with a crowbar and do the same, as regards tension.
Not sure if you're still on the forum or not... and I don't know much about these engines first hand, so take it with a grain of salt.
"common rail" IPs run pressures 4-6 times higher than good ol'...
