I had a bit of a google and looks like there's a cold start feature that can be deleted that has pipes and sht going everywhere.
I'm betting it's all related to that.

Mines a steel rack and I reckon I added about 1lt/100 when I bolted it on. It's just too dam handy though.
Not sure on the 2.8.. But the 4.2 won't show fuel at the injectors if the fuel stop solenoid doesn't have power.
