Had one on my 3l crd , with very bad blow by and caught a lot of oil but never had the issue you're experiencing. Will be getting one for the 4.2 shortly.

The rd28 uses the same block as my rB30. I recently had to do a head, then do a water pump only a few thousand ks later. If you have the cash available, I would recommend

Might sound silly but when you do an oil change in these extreme climate conditions
does it expand after getting hot and therefore giving you an over full condition.

Very simple. Should bolt straight in as the car stands. You may need to turn the wheel a little to open or close the gap with the spring.

I would guess it should be ok
it will make it a lot warmer than usual - maybe Northern Territory type warm
but your right, the intercooler is designed to have the air flow through it to cool down...
