Definitely get it scanned first, euro cars are smart, too smart actually coz they even log a fault code when you change a light globe. I had a quick read of that link and the fault of that car was...

Also check the wiring loom for rodent damage. We had rats chew some wires together which caused weird stuff like the aircon coming on and the engine starting with the key in the 'acc' position.
