I would say you may have missed a wire to the motor. Either the earth wire, solenoid wire or the thick +12V wire from the battery. Earth wire is usually the body.

Route the belt thru the A/C , Crank, Alt and Power Steering as best you can then back off the tensioner and slide the belt under the tensioner pully.
A socket breaker bar is usually the best tool...
