300M is a modified 4340. Can be 150-190% stronger than 4140. 4140 is more than up to the task so 300M is overkill and unlikely to break.

Genuine manual locking hub. Found on 98% of GQs and on most GU Ute's. I know atleast until 2006 this applies. Not AVM and not Chinese knock off's.

It will either be the hub or the diff centre. Easy to kill hubs with lockers and chromo axles/cvs. Genuine manual hubs aren't cheap. CVs are like anything they do wear out and don't last forever....
