Simplest description I have read on how a diesel VE fuel pump (common to all GQ diesels) works and what part does what.

I'd be suggesting that normally the pin should be positive & the housing grounded, so with the multimeter red lead on the pin in the middle of the bulb receptacle and the black lead to the housing...

With your voltmeter, put the positive probe on the single terminal in the bulb socket and the negative probe on the inside of the bulb housing.
With the light turn on does the meter read positive...

LEDs are diodes and they are polarity sensitive. Try turning them around as the negative and positve terminals may be wrong way around.

I'm not sure how those cornering lamps are wired up, but the LEDs are polarity biased
So it's possible the way the light socket is wired up is preventing the LEDs from working.

If you have the EGR it will look like the pic below.
Some GQ 2.8s don't have the EGR system.

i just rebuilt my RD28t and had it boared out i got a new head with all my old running gear for $1300 with head gasket inc.
my rebuild kit was $2000 with oversized pistons and rings, and...

mechanic mate of mine swore by Monotorque gasket kits - but that was 20 years ago and I have no recent experience.
New head bolts seem to be accepted as necessary. Be tempting to do the rings...

I dont know what your budget is but I found a bloke in Melbourne that will do a straight swap for the 2.8 Head. Lifters, valves, CAM the works really. Apparently it includes a new head bolt kit to....

Just found these ones, looks like the globe and cables are there, just gotta patch them in to the existing loom in the bumpers.......... I'm looking to do this as well at some point in the near...

Mine are done also mate, but had an auto sparky wire them up - got the lights themselves from Bursons. Just not sure about being able to get a plug and play loom. I have a custom rear bar now so...
