Be interesting if you could ... grey imports happening again though? Not sure it'd be right ... at least without some serious paperwork/effort.
From what I've heard someone over this side imported one but can not get it registered. I would assume you would have to jump through hoops and legal red tape to get compliancy, then there's the import tax on top which won't be cheap........... Unless there's a company out there that's gonna bring them in
Maybe I'll have to move to Nz for a while so I can have some fun in one. I spoke with Garric Imports a guy by the name of Garry told me it my be possible and he will look into it for me :)
If you own and use it overseas for more than 12 months it is possible. To buy and import one would be massively expensive as unlike Terrano's, Skyline's etc. GU Shorty's are not on the approved list.

and the SEVS list as of 31 Jan 2012 http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/sevsindex.htm
If only...
So has there been a swb available from the first GU? I've haven't even seen any pics (not that I been looking!). A TD4.2 turbo shorty would be pretty killer!
Here, a small selection for you -- TB42, TB45 & TB48s (Don't do Diesels here)

I did see one on the north side of Brisbane a couple of years ago.
There is also one over in Perth, but somehow I don't think they will be getting it registered.

Bulbous, do you know much about the models on sale at the moment? My understanding is that the SWB 4.8L only just went on sale this January... I'm trying to get down to Jeddah to obtain pricing, options etc but if you know anything it would be helpful :)
It's interesting that all the models pictures are running series 3, 16" rims? are 17s not popular in UAE? Do the LWB come out with the 17s?
Went on sale in August I believe - same as the manual Transmission Y62.
Models (prices are in AED)
Y61/GU 2012 model SWB RWD with 4.8 vtec manual 5 speed = 140k
Y61/GU 2012 model SWB RWD with 4.8 vtec Auto = 145k
Y61/GU 2012 Safari model SWB RWD with 4.8 vtec manual 5 speed with moon roof and diff lock = 160k
Y61/GU 2012 Safari model SWB RWD with 4.8 vtec auto with moon roof and diff lock = 172k
Safari also has
Blacked out rear lights, fog lights, fridge and CD player.

Quite a limited supply of tyres out here, best selection is 16 inch so that's what most people use. The LWB also comes with 16s as standard. The 3rd and 4th pics are running Siam 900 sand tyres. Good thing it doesn't rain here much since they are typically inflated to 60 PSI and are quite deadly in the wet.
Does anyone know what 6 speed they use in the 4.8 SWB?
There is one that lives on beams road carseldine Brisbane. Has rego plates. Have not looked too hard but I think it is a 4.8.
Hi Guys know its an old post but am currently in the process of trying to emigrate and planning to bring mine with me to AUSTRALIA. Any idea what they would be worth what sort of money would it achieve 2nd hand if wanted to sell it 44k miles - 70k kms(currently on 35's re geared etc ) Sadly Patrols do not have a big following her in the UK Patrols in general are not that common here in the UK (right hand drive) But are more popular in mainland Europe (LHD) Unfortunately we only get them with the ZD30 engine if i mange to bring it in i will hopefully be changing it for a 4.2 think it will be a perfect combo with the SWB
Niiice rig mate... be prepared to spend some serious dollars to get it engineered to ADR's I reckon unless you can get some sort of exemption.
Dunno what it would be worth, would totally depend on how bad someone wanted it
I’ll buy it. Fecking love one of those!

It definitely deserves an LSX454R for wheelstands down our beautiful beaches mate! Chop the top off, add roll bars with bimini sun shade for some real magnet action, what a beast [emoji106][emoji106]

They've never been a factory or even grey import so would need an assessment I would think, also, insurance might be an issue as they will take parts into consideration IE even a small bingle may be a writeoff.
But I was more referring specifically to the OP rig (which looks quite heavily mod'd) if he was to bring it over
Happy to be wrong however
Can understand your point about parts being an insurance issue. Roof/floor pan damage would be the breaker thinking about it. All moving bits would be same I'd reckon?
Just wondering why they weren't factory available in the first place. Reckon it was probably a Nissan sales volume decision rather than ADR compliance issues.
Yeah, probably right.
ADR has weird flow on effects tho IE the rear lights that don't work on Aussie Spec vehicles from 1994 (or was it 1992).
Rather than redesign/engineer the Aussie versions to have them comply to ADR (problem was the visible arc compliance due to the spare) they omitted the innards and made them non-functional and placed them in the bar.
In essence that means it can be argued that if you now 'activate' the rear lights by using overseas spec lights or drilling out and fitting holders etc your vehicle is no longer ADR compliant.
It is a different argument to 'adding lights to comply' as is needed on some imports.
In the Patrol example one is adding lights that do not comply... and they can't be treated as repeaters either. Repeaters ah la mine spec etc have their own set of ADRs
Hence the need for assessment IE does the OP shorty (being Euro spec) have ADR compliant tail lamps?
I have seen pics of GR Patrols out of Europe both with and without lights in the bar.
Maybe it does, I dunno... I still love the look of the GU shorty tho
There’s two UK GU shorties over Lilydale way, will see if can remember to stop one oneday to ask what they had to go through.

Nah sorry, mislead ya. They’ve got Vic plates and been here for at least 5 years I know of the Burgundy coloured one seen more regularly.
