Trollett
Hi all,
sorry it has taken so long but here is my 89 shorty (named trollett by my missus)
I brought it about 8 months ago, at that stage it was very sad but the driveline was good and it cost me less than 3 grand, she already had a 3 inch suspension lift (dobinsons springs and shocks) and 2 inch body lift which was only 12 months old. She is tb42 unfortunatly but that will do for now.
Over the next 6 months I have replaced all the bushes, wheel bearing and seals, breaks, clutch, wheels and tyres, welded up the crack in the front diff, removed the body lift (which I still have if anyone wants it), did a few rust repair's, and cleaned all the mud out of it (it was everywhere). I have also fitted out the back for camping, pulled out the back seat and put in a plywood floor with plastic containers and draws that bolt down to the floor as well as a 60 liter water tank and a duel battery system with a 120ah battery.
Thankfully I have managed to do most the work myself with a few scun knuckles so the whole build so far, including buying the car, engle fridge, and all my camping gear has cost me less than 10 grand (that doesn't include the beer I drank while doing it). Next on the to do list is beef up the rest of the suspension, Build a custom snorkle (thanks to AB's diy thread) and might have a go at making a bullbar.
Sorry don't have any pics of the actual build but pics start from when I brought it to current state.
Thanks Tusman

Top lookin lil troll mate well done, gotta be happy spinnin the spanners on ur own 4b hay!!
-
Nice rig mate, so why did you decide 2 remove the body lift?
-
I had to mate to get a roadworthy unfortunatly, and I have no need to put it back in as the weekest point at this stage is the driver not the car lol
-
Very nice mate, love the shortys!!!
-

Thanks Trolatron, I'ts getting there but still a bit of work to be done before it's as neat as yours. It's just a fiberglass tank from BCF cost $59 from memory, Ive mounted it behind the drivers seat using some old seat belt and made some brackets, Ran some hose down to the back with a tap, no pressure so I think I will have to put a pump in their. cheers

Nice set up Tusman,
Well done on doing it yourself too, it looks good.
Keep the pics coming.
Cheers Gavin

Been a busy Australia day for Trollette, Got the UHF installed today and made a start on putting in some rubber flooring in to replace the old carpet. Passangers side came up really well, but made a bit of a dogs breakfast of the drivers side. Hoping to get the snorkle done this weekend as well, have ended going with a pre made snorkle as the lady of the house did not trust a home made one, even though i had bought most the parts for it.

Nice ride mate, the suspension lift is probably the most over rated piece of 4wd kit anyway!
-
Top looking Shorty you got there, are bodylifts unroadworthy in Victoria?
-
G'day Tusman welcome aboard mate
-
bodylifts are legal in victoria just the overall hight was too much. Don't quote me on this but what the guys doing the roady said 75mm higher than standard is the limit and that includes tyres as well, so mine with the 3 inch (75mm) springs and 33 inch tyres is probably stretching the limit as it is so the bodylift had to go.

Quick update, Snorkle is fitted, had some dramas as the template they sent with it was out by about 30mm which I did not pick up until after I started cutting the hole. should have taken my time and double checked before starting, anyhow got it sorted and seems to be working well. Also got the Pertronix ignition on yesterday too and the truck is much happyer for it. Will get some pics up later. The "to do" list is getting fairly short now = happy man!

Been a while since I gave you all an update sorry. Well 5 weeks out from our trip to lake eyre Trollette has been a bit stroppy, blew a gasket out of the carby so had that rebuilt, still not running right so pulled all the plugs and leads and checked them, still not running right so replaced all the vacume hoses, still not running right so finaly gave in and took her to the machanics yesterday... I also have discovered the clutch master cylinder is leaking so ordered a new one of those. I guess it's good to happen now and not halfway through a trip. I am also in the process of making up an awning to come off the back, 6x3 meter canvas tarp, big enough to cover the kitchen and the tent to keep the frost off on the cold nights. I have also fitted tie down points inside to hold down the fridge and storage containers on the bumpy roads. so progress is still moving ahead I'll post up some pics as soon as I'm done cheers. Tusman

Good looking ride. I have heard that if you throw a turbo on the standard non turbo motor with the higher compression you get quite a bit more performance. I have had both turbo and non turbo Nissans. Never get a non turbo again. It really makes all the difference.

As promised hear is the pics of the awning I have built, very happy with how it turned out. I also put a new 100 amp altinatator in last night too. I have also got it running better, infact the best it has ever run, problem was the auto choke was stuck on.

I have discovered that I have distroyed a front left hub on our recent trip to Lake Eyre, I noticed during the trip that over the the corrugations the hub had started to viabrate engaged and the one time I needed 4wd on the trip it felt like it was kicking in and out. On getting home I pulled it apart and sure enough it has worn the top off the gears inside the hub and hence causing it to slip, awsome! Any way got a set of AVM hubs and stuck them on yesterday, I saw a few threds on here that say they can be a bit dodgy so see how they go but at least I've got 4x4 back. Looks like we have also cracked the front diff housing again, it was cracked when I brought it and we welded it up but looks like it has let go again, not bad but is weeping a little oil. I will have another go at welding it and if that doesn't work might have to look at another housing, but that looks like a lot of work to me bummer.

Got the crack in the front diff welded up today, put enough weld in their to hold the sydney harbour bridge together so hopefully it is fixed for good. Also started mounting the winch
