98 GU RD28eti
Hi Everyone
I am new to the site. I have a 1998, RD28eti GU Patrol (ST). I have had the vehicle from new. when I bought the car, I put on:
- upgraded springs and shocks
- tow bar
- TJM bullbar
- Warn Winch
- Duel Batteries
- side bars
- 285/75R16 Cooper STT
- UHF
Since I have had the car, it has been a good vehicle, but has suffered some problems:
- injection pump worn and reqired reconditioning
- head cracked - replaced
- oil cooler failed - oil getting into the water (lucky not the other way around)
- clutch and flywheel replaced (put a solid flywheel in)
And most recently, the blocked shattered after the crank shaft sent a rod through the side of the block, spraying cast iron shrapnel straight through the sump.
So, after saving up some $$$, I have purchsed a import RD28T, which I am in the process of converting to an RD28eti, by transferring everything from one engine to the other. fun, fun, fun...
Cheers
Greg

Thanks everyone for your kind welcomes. I have posted a picture of the car a couple of years ago when it was fully functional. This one was taken at the bottom of Lake Eucumbene when it was dry at the hight of the drought.

Are they shadows or do you have a couple of dings on the side

g'day Greg and welcome aboard mate.................. hope all goes well with the transplant

Hi Roofy
there are some small dings on the side. You have to expect this as we use this pretty much for offroading. we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Subaru Outback as daily commuters.

just an update on the conversion. I have stripped the RD28eti down completely. Well from the damage in the RD28eti, it appears that no1 cylynder seized, pulling the pin out of the bottom of the piston and dissintergrating the connecting rod, which then shattered the cast iron bearing cradle and blew holes in both side of the block on no. 1 and 2 cylynders and it also exploded shrapnel through the sump. Not pretty.

I know it a bit late Greg but ime only new to the forum , just interested on how the engine swap went and did you come across any issues doing it.
